Do you need an app at all?

An app makes sense when customers come back often and want something a website does badly: ordering, tracking a delivery, booking a slot, collecting loyalty points, or a tool for your own staff. It rarely makes sense for a business a customer uses twice a year. In that case an app costs more to build and is never opened.

• Build an app when

  Customers use the service weekly or more, you need push notifications, the app must work with the phone's camera, location or offline storage, or your staff need a tool in the field.

• Start with a website or WhatsApp when

  Customers mostly want to find you, check timings and prices and message you. A fast website and a WhatsApp booking flow do this for a fraction of the effort. This is often the right first step.

Apps for smaller cities

Bitex99 is a food delivery app for tier 3 and tier 4 cities, and a result we published for it is 2,300 app downloads in 9 days.

Apps for smaller cities have to work on mid-range Android phones and slow connections, so that is how we scope them. Most customers in India are on Android, so we usually plan Android first and look at iPhone once the first version has proved itself.
